Vietnam is setting an ambitious target of welcoming 25 million international visitors in 2026 as the country seeks to build on strong tourism growth recorded during the first half of the year.

Authorities are focusing on a combination of supportive visa policies, expanded overseas marketing initiatives, and the diversification of international source markets to maintain momentum.

According to VnEconomy, Vietnam received an estimated 1.68 million international visitors in June, bringing the total number of foreign arrivals during the first six months of the year to 12.3 million. This represents a 14.9 percent increase compared with the same period last year. The tourism sector is also aiming to generate VND1.125 quadrillion (US$43 billion) in revenue for the full year.

The figures were reported by VnEconomy, which cited Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director General of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism. Khanh said, "the sector’s second-half strategy would focus on policy reform, international market development and digital transformation."

The report noted that the industry's recent performance has been driven by more favorable visa regulations, continued tourism promotion campaigns, and the expansion of key international source markets. These measures have helped strengthen Vietnam's appeal as a destination while supporting the steady recovery of inbound travel.

As part of its broader tourism agenda, Vietnam is working to strengthen the national policy framework for tourism development as it seeks to establish the industry as one of the country's key economic sectors. Authorities also intend to enhance collaboration between airlines, travel companies, and accommodation providers to better meet growing international travel demand and improve the overall visitor experience.

In addition, digital transformation remains a central component of the government's long-term strategy. Planned initiatives include integrating tourism databases with the national population database, while also modernizing tourism data collection and reporting systems to align with international statistical standards. These efforts are expected to improve the efficiency of tourism management and support sustainable growth across the sector.
