The Association of Gaming Operators of Kenya (AGOK) commemorated its 20th anniversary last Friday with an elaborate celebration at Nairobi’s Safari Park Hotel, bringing together industry operators, government representatives and key stakeholders for an evening devoted to networking, entertainment and evaluating the evolution of Kenya’s gaming landscape.

Throughout the event, participants focused heavily on AGOK’s achievements, the sector’s growing emphasis on responsible gambling and continued efforts to strengthen collaboration with regulatory authorities. Operators reiterated their commitment to championing responsible gambling practices as a crucial foundation for the industry’s long-term stability.
AGOK reaffirmed that dialogue, transparency and compliance will remain central to its agenda as it works more closely with regulators to uphold a gaming environment that is safe, fair and consistent for both licensed operators and consumers. Chairman Sasa Krneta highlighted the association’s progress in steering responsible gambling initiatives, explaining:
“Our mission is simple; to speak with one voice, to advocate for fair regulation, to address illegal gambling and to promote responsible gaming. Responsible gaming is a top priority for us. Through the Chukua Control campaign, training programs, better self-exclusion systems and public education, we are increasing commitment to player safety and well-being.”
Weldon Ngeno, Deputy Commissioner of the Large Taxpayers Office, applauded the gaming industry’s improved tax performance, noting that collections from operators had risen by 21 per cent over the past year. Meanwhile, Hon. Joseph Kirui Limo, Chairman of the newly established Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA), acknowledged the sector’s significance and pledged enhanced cooperation with operators to advance their working environment.
“The industry is growing, and it has to be supported. This is recognition by the government that you are very important stakeholders in this country. We are going to work together more than ever before,” he said.
As AGOK looks ahead, it has committed to strengthening its partnerships with the GRA, the Kenya Revenue Authority, the Financial Reporting Centre and other institutions to ensure a transparent, compliant and predictable regulatory climate, underscoring its renewed pledge to responsible gambling and sustainable industry development.
