A court in Russia has issued a prison sentence of 8 years and 2 months, along with a fine of 12 million rubles, against former Sergey Anokhin, who previously served as CEO of the bookmaker Fonbet, following his conviction in a case involving corruption, mediation of bribery, and large-scale organized fraud.

The court also handed down sentences to several co-defendants involved in the same criminal proceedings, with penalties varying according to each individual’s level of participation in the scheme. Among them, one lawyer received a sentence of 3 years and 6 months, while a former police officer was sentenced to 7 years and 2 months in prison, in addition to monetary fines. Other defendants were also sentenced based on their respective roles and agreements in facilitating the criminal activity, which investigators described as involving coordinated corruption and fraudulent conduct affecting both domestic and international contexts.

According to investigators, Anokhin attempted to obstruct the transfer of documentation related to earlier financial misconduct by allegedly bribing public officials. Authorities say he arranged a payment scheme involving intermediaries and a total bribe amount of 60 million rubles. One of the intermediaries involved in the transaction was reportedly cooperating with law enforcement as part of an undercover operation that included a police officer, and that individual was arrested shortly after transferring the 60 million ruble bribe.

The investigation included extensive procedural activity, with more than 30 witness interrogations conducted and over 15 forensic examinations carried out on materials and evidence collected during the case. These materials were obtained through eight court-authorized searches conducted at various locations tied to the defendants. Investigators also reported the seizure of approximately 55 million rubles during the course of the inquiry, which were subsequently confiscated by the state.

The court proceedings concluded with findings that the defendants participated in coordinated acts of corruption, bribery mediation, and organized fraud, resulting in the structured sentencing of all individuals involved, including the former bookmaker executive and his associates.
