Cystat noted in its report that the non-seasonally adjusted growth rate for the quarter is calculated at 3.6 per cent. The agency attributed the positive performance primarily to the sectors of wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles, information and communication, as well as hotels and restaurants.

The flash estimate is designed to provide an early indication of the overall trajectory of the Cyprus economy, based on preliminary figures, and is released 45 days after the quarter’s end. Cystat explained that the compilation of Quarterly National Accounts generally follows an indirect approach, which relies on short-term indicators that reflect the development of the underlying economic phenomena.

GDP in Cyprus is measured using both the production and expenditure methods, while the income method is treated as a residual item. Quarterly National Accounts are produced at current prices, in volume terms, and at previous-year prices. These datasets are then published and submitted to Eurostat two months after the end of each quarter.

The flash estimate itself is prepared using the same methodology as the two-month calculation but is based on a smaller set of input data, Cystat clarified.
