Luxembourg has issued a global plea for public assistance in tracking down one of its most high-priority fugitives, 57-year-old Philippe Stanislas Antoine Wasila. Europol has announced that Wasila is wanted for defrauding investors of €5.4 million during 2013 and 2014. He allegedly did so by falsely portraying himself as a successful businessman and lawyer.
Wasila’s case has now been added to the EU Most Wanted website, highlighting his profile among other high-profile fugitives. Luxembourg authorities issued European and international arrest warrants for Wasila on April 17.
According to Europol, Wasila convinced several investors to entrust him with their funds by “promising to channel their money into profitable projects.” However, Europol revealed in a statement, “Investigations have revealed that no such reinvestments occurred. Instead, the suspect allegedly established a complex network of opaque companies and foreign bank accounts to misappropriate the funds, which he used to finance his lavish personal lifestyle.”
Wasila, a French national, lived in Luxembourg for several years and is fluent in multiple languages, including English, French, German, and Italian. Europol’s website displays mugshots of Wasila, seemingly sourced from his social media accounts. Notably, his last public Facebook post dates back to October 11.
On LinkedIn, Wasila’s profile picture shows him aboard a private jet, champagne glass in hand, presenting an image of wealth and success. He describes himself on the platform as a senior partner at “Xasteria Finance S.A.,” which he claims to be a mergers and acquisitions firm.
Further adding to his curated persona, his Instagram account reveals his interests as a polo enthusiast and car racer. The profile also highlights his more whimsical side, describing him as a romantic who “still hopes Bambi makes it out of the fire.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information about Wasila’s whereabouts to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the EU Most Wanted website.
