Unveiling Europe's Most Stressful Airports: A Closer Look at Five Major Hubs

As Easter approaches, airports worldwide brace for a surge in passenger traffic, a common occurrence during holidays. This uptick in travelers often poses challenges for airlines, leading to flight cancellations or delays as they struggle to meet the increased demand.

Unveiling Europe's Most Stressful Airports: A Closer Look at Five Major Hubs

To ensure a hassle-free travel experience during Easter and similar holidays, experts advise avoiding the busiest airports. VisaGuide.World recently released a ranking of the most stressful airports globally, shedding light on those to steer clear of during peak travel times.

London Gatwick Airport, UK

London Gatwick Airport, the second-largest airport in the United Kingdom, has claimed the title of the world's most stressful airport. Despite serving a large number of passengers, Gatwick's relatively small size often leads to overcrowding and frequent flight delays. According to Dion Pllana, VisaGuide's Global Travel Trends Analyst, Gatwick's remote location from the city center exacerbates passenger stress, particularly during peak seasons and holidays.

Istanbul Airport, Türkiye

Istanbul Airport stands as Europe's busiest and the world's seventh-busiest airport, with over 64 million passengers recorded in 2022. Despite its vast size, travelers frequently encounter challenges navigating the airport, contributing to heightened stress levels. The sheer volume of passengers passing through Istanbul Airport adds to the complexity of the travel experience, making it a significant factor in its ranking as one of the most stressful airports.

Munich Airport, Germany

Munich Airport, while handling over 31 million passengers in 2022, is significantly smaller in size compared to Istanbul Airport. However, its relatively high frequency of flight delays, standing at 49.20 percent, contributes to its reputation as one of the most stressful airports. Despite its smaller footprint, Munich Airport struggles to cope with the influx of passengers, leading to increased stress for travelers navigating its terminals.

Heathrow Airport, UK

Heathrow Airport, London's primary air hub, welcomed more than 61.6 million travelers in 2022. While it experiences a slightly lower flight delay frequency compared to Gatwick, it remains a challenging environment for passengers. The sheer volume of travelers passing through Heathrow, coupled with its significant size, contributes to the stress experienced by passengers, particularly during busy holiday periods.

Fiumicino International Airport, Italy

Fiumicino International Airport in Italy ranks second in size among the five European airports listed. Despite its size, Fiumicino handled fewer passengers than other European counterparts, resulting in lower passenger density. Additionally, its flight delay frequency stands at 28.8 percent, providing some relief to travelers amidst the stress of air travel. Despite its lower passenger volume, Fiumicino International Airport still grapples with issues of congestion and stress, albeit to a lesser extent compared to its counterparts.
