An article published by FinTech Magazine confirms that the company has published a job advertisement for a new head of "digital currency and blockchain".

The ad suggests that Amazon is looking for an "experienced leader to develop Amazon's digital currency and blockchain strategy and product roadmap."

The move is believed to be a direct response to increased competition from other tech giants such as Meta / Facebook who have recruited their own team of experts to create a blockchain concept.

Google has also recently partnered with Bakkt, paving the way for the acceptance of cryptos in the Google Pay app.

2022 has been set as the year in which Amazon will launch its own cryptocurrency, but there are no clear details on when exactly that year will be.

Customers are expected to be able to use the Amazon Crypto Token while shopping on the company's site, although it is unclear how long it will take to implement this.
